PCS members at the National Gallery have just finished their second five day strike – it was a fantastic success
The second five day strike culminated in a brilliant day of action on Thursday 26 February. Strikers held a rally outside the Sainsbury wing of the gallery and then marched through Leicester Square, Chinatown and Soho to the Getty Images gallery close to Oxford Street.
Mark Getty is the current chair of the board of trustees of the National Gallery. He is refusing to speak to them over the question of the proposed privatisation and Candy Udwin’s suspension.
The fight at the National Gallery goes on. PCS members at the gallery will meet to decide their next step. in the meantime it is crucial that people continue to organise the solidarity photos. The TUC general council is one of the latest group of people to do one! To view some of these go to their facebook page here
Financial solidarity remains vital if the National Gallery strikers are going to be able to continue their fight at the current pitch and win. Union branches across the country should invite national gallery speakers in to their meetings. Email: noprivatisationatNG@gmail.com

Firefighters rally and blockade parliament during their 24 hour strike Wednesday 25 February
4,000 firefighters rallied in Westminster on Wednesday while they were on strike over their pensions. The strike and rally was called after it was revealed that Penny Mordaunt MP had misled parliament over guarantees made about pension proposals during the commons debate.
Following the rally at Westminster Central Hall, FBU members marched into Parliament Square and then blockaded parliament, many were carrying placards calling Penny Mordaunt a liar.

Maximus Day of Action Monday 2 March
A national day of action has been called on March 2nd 2015 against Maximus, the company set to take over from Atos running the despised Work Capability Assessments (WCAs) for sickness and disability benefits.
These crude and callous assessments have been used to strip benefits from hundreds of thousands of sick and disabled people after a quick computer based test ruled them ‘fit for work’. A growing number of suicides have been directly linked to this stressful regime, whilst charities, medical staff and claimants themselves have warned of the desperate consequences for those left with no money at all by the system.
