DON’T LET LEWISHAM EDUCATION BE TORN APART

From Lewisham NUT:
On Thursday, February 12th, Lewisham NUT colleagues in Sedgehill, Ladywell Fields, Hilly Fields and Prendergast Vale schools took strike action to oppose the threat that their employer might be changed to an Academy Trust. They are taking an important stand – and we hope you can give them every support! Further action is taking place on Thursday March 5th, alongside members of the GMB and NASUWT.
If you have been following the dispute, you may know that we had originally balloted members in five schools, not four. However, we are pleased to report that Bonus Pastor members were not on strike because their Governors have confirmed in writing that they are NOT pursuing Academy status at this time!
At a time when there is increasing evidence about how the academies programme has failed to raise standards and, regrettably, increasing reports about the concerns of many teachers working under academy terms and conditions, this dispute is of importance to teachers as a whole in Lewisham – and beyond.
Rush messages of support to NUT@lewisham.gov.uk
