DON’T LET LEWISHAM EDUCATION BE TORN APART

Tomorrow, Thursday 5th March, NUT members at four schools in Lewisham are taking a second day of strike action against the proposal to turn them into academies.

Members are concerned that this is about privatising schools. The parents, staff and students have been active in demonstrating against the plans. The current demand is for a ballot of staff on the issue of becoming an academy.

This is a simple and democratic demand and should be part of any consultation. The recent Hove Park school dispute saw a governing body change its mind after parents linked with staff who took strike action and with local politicians who gave support.

The memebrs are looking to step up the strike action if the governors do not engage in a dialogue about the future of these schools. Picket lines will be held at all schools.

People can also support them through their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/StopAcademiesinLewisham?fref=photo

Message of support should be sent to NUT@lewisham.gov.uk
