People’s Inquiry into National Gallery

We have been overwhelmed by the support for our first five day strike against privatisation. The nationwide solidarity we have received makes us believe that we can win. People from all over the country have supported us and collected and donated thousands of pounds to our strike fund. We handed in a 40,000 strong petition and have had support in both the House of Commons and the Lords.

A very small number in the Gallery back the privatisation and seem intent on taking on our union. We call them the Troika! This includes the outgoing Chair of Trustees billionaire Mark Getty.

The Gallery went too far in suspending Candy Udwin a PCS rep the day before the strike. There have been widespread calls for her reinstatement. If it was intended to scare staff it has backfired with a fantastic feeling of solidarity amongst the strikers.

EVERYONE CAN JOIN IN ON LINE

If you can’t make it to the Gallery then please organise whatever solidarity action you can on the day or just take a photo holding the poster.

CAN YOU HELP US ORGANISE SOLIDARITY?

Let us know if you could organise a leafleting session one morning or lunchtime where you work and invite strikers to join you? A leaflet is attached.

Please do invite us to your meetings and organise collections and donations. Most strikers do not earn the London Living Wage so financial support is crucial to helping us to win.
