Update on Lambeth College dispute

11 September 2014

Llambeth ucu your fight is our fightambeth College UCU members met last night and voted overwhelmingly to ballot for further industrial action in their dispute with the college over new contracts with worse conditions. The new conditions include cutting our holidays by 2 weeks, working longer hours for no extra pay and drastic cuts to sick pay.

UCU members are very disappointed that the college management have still not met with the union for further talks, despite repeated requests following the standing down of the 5 and a half weeks of indefinite strike action last term. Therefore the position for members remains the same and last night they made it clear they are prepared to ballot for more industrial action to prevent the worsening of conditions inside the college.

Since returning to work, staff in the college have been threatened with a fresh wave of attacks including punitive changes to the lesson observation policy and the removal of trade union rights. UCU members also have very serious concerns about the equality impact of college policies on BME staff and are calling for an urgent investigation. Members voted to ballot for industrial action if the changes to the lesson observation process, which could lead to an increase in stress, workload and dismissals, are not withdrawn.

Many thanks to everyone who has supported us and made donations to our strike fund. The solidarity we have received nationally has been unbelievable and we hope to be able to count on your continued support as we move into the next phase.
