Merseyside Unite the Resistance
The trade union movement is heading into an Autumn of unrest over pay. On the 14 October around a million local government workers in Unison, Unite and GMB are set to strike. In Scotland local government workers are running their ballot from 9 to 29 September.
NHS Unison and Unite members in England are also balloting for action, as is the Royal College of Midwives for the first time in its history. The TUC demonstration on the 18 October will be a huge display of anger over pay.
In recent years, trade unions have fought together over pay, pensions and against austerity. When we fight this way we act as a movement. We need to build more firmly on that principle.
Unite the Resistance aims to do just that. On the 15 November Unite the Resistance is holding a national conference of activists from all unions to discuss and debate the way forward.
We aim to have the largest possible turnout from Merseyside to make sure that our voice is heard at the conference. We are holding a regional meeting for reps, stewards and branch officers and indeed all trade union members who are interested, to hear more about the initiative. We will also be discussing practicalities such as transport for the delegation.
The speaker for the meeting will be Jane Aitchison, PCS (DWP group President 2004-2012)
The meeting takes place in the Board Room at: Jack Jones House, 2 Churchill Way, Liverpool L3 at: 6pm on Wednesday 17 September
