A Doncaster Care UK striker got a standing ovation from more than 250 people who packed into Sheffield’s Library Theatre for a “30 years after the Great Miners’ Strike” public rally last Friday night, organised by South Yorks NUJ in conjunction with Unite the Resistance and sponsors by local unions. Care UK worker Kirstine Carbutt, daughter and grand-daughter of striking miners, brought the house down.
A collection for the strikers raised nearly £600 and a further £200 will be donated by the meeting’s organisers.Other speakers included Ken Capstick, former vice-president Yorks NUM, Arthur Critchlow, ex-striking miners arrested for riot at Orgreave, WAPC, Barbara Jackson, of the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign.
