Glasgow city council residential workers strike update

15 January 2014

Residential workers within Glasgow City Council are returning to work
this evening after their 48 hour strike. At an angry mass meeting today
they voted unanimously to impose an immediate overtime ban and take
further 48 hour action, the dates of which will be announced soon.

The UNISON union members action is in response to council plans to
impose new 12 and a half hour shifts and cut shift allowances.

The council has refused to have any meaningful discussions to resolve
the dispute. One striker said “The council is digging in, so can we”
