16 December 2013
Unite members at St Mungo’s in Hitchin are to take 12 days further strike action from 3pm on 22 December. This is the second wave of strike action by the workers. Their jobs and patterns of work have changed to turn a night service into a 24hour service. Management’s are refusing to let the Hitchin workers receive the same terms and conditions as other St Mungo’s staff doing the same jobs. They are being refused any sick pay whatsoever.
It would cost management less than £5k a year to do this. They have explicitly stated “this is not about the money”, which begs the question: exactly what is this about? Senior management have repeatedly questioned the legal right of members to strike, following a democratic ballot where all concerned voted yes.
Cheques can be made payable to: “Unite Housing Workers Branch 1111″ and sent c/o Nicky Marcus, Regional Industrial Officer, Unite Central London District Office, 33-37 Moreland St, London EC1V 8HA. Please write ‘St Mungo’s Hitchin strike’ on the back.
