Rallies and protests for tomorrow’s post-16 education strike

England

Birmingham: Assemble at 12 noon. Rally 1pm – 2pm @ the John Lee Theatre, Birmingham & Midland Institute, Margaret Street (near/off Victoria Square), Birmingham City Centre, B3 3BS (speakers include Liz Lawrence, other TUs invited to speak, tbc).

Brighton: Assemble at Victoria Gardens, Grand Parade at 12.30 for a short rally at 1pm. March from 130pm. Rally at the Holiday Inn (seafront) at 215pm.

Bristol: Rally – 1-2pm at College Green. City of Bristol College, University of Bristol and UWE (UCU, Unison and Unite) will rally here after their pickets at the respective three institutions. Speakers are Dominique Lauterberg (UCU NEC), Harriet Bradley (UCU NEC) and Nigel Costley, secretary South West TUC.

Cambridge: Rally at 12 noon at Senate House speakers include Ben Thomas, UNISON National Officer and Joint TU side Secretary.

Leeds: 11.30 am: all pickets muster at University of Leeds Parkinson Steps for short speeches. 11.45 am: march to Victoria Gardens (the area outside Leeds Art Gallery on the Headrow). 12 noon: joint union rally with speeches at Victoria Gardens.

Liverpool: UCU members will be assembling at University Square at 12.00 in Liverpool with speakers from local UCU, Unison and Unite branches and will then members will proceed to the official regional rally at The CASA, Hope Street for 1pm. Speakers include Michael MacNeil, UCU’s Head of Negotiating and Bargaining, UNISON Assistant General Secretary Roger McKenzie.and a speaker from Unite. London: London region executive are organising ‘activities’ in Bloomsbury area from 1pm (details tbc). Rally 2 – 4pm Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church Sanctuary Room. Speakers include UNISON National Secretary Jon Richards.

Sheffield: details to follow

Southampton: Rally at 12.30pm. Students Union Piazza, Highfield Campus, University of Southampton.

Scotland

Edinburgh: Rally at Bristo Square, 12noon.  Chair Angi Lamb, Secretary UCU Scotland; speakers: Dave Moxham, Deputy General Secretary, STUC; Dave Anderson, UCU Scotland President; Unison, EIS, Unite and NUS speakers all invited and  tbc.

Glasgow: Rally at Bath Street, 12noon. Chair Ann Gow, Branch Secretary UCU Glasgow; speakers: Ian Tasker, Assistant Secretary, STUC; Douglas Chalmers, UCU Scotland Vice President; Unison, EIS, Unite and NUS speakers all invited and tbc.
