South Gloucestershire Unison strikes against pay cuts

27 September 2013

Some 190 workers in South Gloucestershire council are taking the first of two strikes tomorrow (Saturday). They face an average 10 percent pay cut.

Th e action will involve library assistants, care assistants, traffic wardens and children secure unit staff.

All the workers are low paid, mainly women and part time workers. For many this is their first ever strike.

Unison has accused the local authority of an attempted strike breaking operation with staff being offered bonuses if they agree to provide cover at a secure unit for young offenders.
