Defend PCS rep Jon Bigger, protest Wednesday 10 April, the Home Office

6 April 2013

Jon Bigger Redundancy Appeal Demo

Jon was recently handed a compulsory redundancy notice at the Home Office.  He has been an active PCS rep for 5 years and has spent the last 3 years searching for positions in the civil service after being declared surplus to requirements in June 2010.

Despite being told he would have every assistance in avoiding redundancy Jon has been refused roles on spurious grounds, forced to sit tests and interviews while others are simply slotted into position.  The issuing of a redundancy notice is unfounded whilst the Home Office continues to advertise roles at his grade that he could do.

Support his appeal by demonstrating outside Home Office HQ on Marsham Street, Westminster on Wednesday 10th April 12:30pm – 3:30pm.

The Civil Service Rank and File Network has also organised a communications blockade of the Home Office or the same day.  Details can be found here:

Jon’s work in the labour movement has included roles on the SERTUC International Committee, campaigns against institutional racism in the Home Office and a number of high profile strike days at the London Passport Office.  Any support you can lend on Wednesday will be much appreciated.

Demo: Wednesday 10th April at 12:30 outside Home Office HQ, Marsham Street, Westminster
