The Tories have made it clear that the attacks on local services, our rights at work, jobs, pay and pensions will continue. With working class living standards being cut as never before in peacetime, as trade unionists, we have to find ways to organise our collective strength against these attacks. In particular, we need to debate and discuss how we get the strike movement back to the scale of the 30th November public sector mass strike and how we can turn the words about a general strike from the TUC into action.
The successful Unite the Resistance conference in London on 17th November was a valuable step forward. With around 1,000 trade unionists present, it resolved to carry this work further with regional conferences around the country early in 2013.
To this end, Unite the Resistance activists are planning to hold a Wales Regional Conference on Saturday 23rd March at Cardiff University. The conference will involve two plenary sessions and a series of workshops, with the aim of the day being both strengthening the networks that we already have as well as compiling an action plan of activity.
