MP’s Caroline Lucas and Jeremy Corbyn headed up a rally hosted by Unite the Resistance and CoR at Downing street last night.
The event came just hours after Osborne’s latest austerity budget and with events in Cyprus underlining what a spiral of cuts can really mean for ordinary people.
Yesterday also saw 250,000 civil servants take strike action in a show of defiance against the Tory government.
The rally was also addressed by the UCU’s Vice-President John McCormack, BFAWU president Ian Hodson, Zak King and speakers from KoNHSP, DPAC and other organisations.
Earlier hundreds had marched from Kings College to Downing Street on a demonstration initiated by UCU’s London Region.
The demo included trade union delegations from the PCS, Unison, RMT, Unite, TSSA and NUT as well as the UCU.
Students came from Goldsmiths College, the LSE, UEL and Kings College.
There were also delegations from DPAC, the Green Party and the National Shop Stewards Network.
Unite the Resistance is holding a third regional conference in South Wales this weekend following successful events in South Yorkshire and Scotland over recent weeks.
