Anti-Austerity Protests 13 & 20 March

The Unite the Resistance steering committee, which met on Saturday 19 January, is calling for protests around two important dates in the struggle against austerity.

Firstly, the next ETUC day of action is taking place on Wednesday 13 March. The ETUC is calling for protests as the Spring European Council meets, protests should take place here against austerity and in solidarity with strikes and protests across Europe.

Then, on Wednesday 20 March, George Osborne will make his budget speech. It will be the kind of budget that we have come to expect from the Tories—a further round of attacks on working people and the poorest and most vulnerable in society. The budget should be met with big protests around the country.

The Unite the Resistance steering committee also elected the following officers:

Joint secretaries: Jane Aitchison (PCS) and Sean Vernell (UCU)

Joint chairs: George Binnette, (Unison, personal capacity), Mandy Brown (UCU), Paul Holmes (Unison, personal capacity), Ian Hodson (BFAWU)

On 20th March also the newly formed National Campaign for Benefits Justice is planning to hold national joint actions to reject the govt’s austerity programme. Download the statement at http://www.defendcouncilhousing.org.uk and then email back your support.
