Unofficial walkout on Runcorn Thermal Power Station site wins concessions

10 January 2013

Around 600 construction workers walked out unofficially on Tuesday at the Thermal Power Station site in Runcorn. Since then workers on the site have been ‘cabined-up’, refusing to work on the site until their concerns are addressed.

Workers have raised issues over the lack of toilet facilities, the lack of hot water and the unacceptable state of the canteen. Since the walkout there have been talks with the site management.

It is understood that the main contractors Keppel Seghers have now agreed some concessions including the improvement of site amenities and regular inspections in consultation with the GMB and Unite unions.

This is clearly a victory for militant tactics and workers are now also demanding reimbursement for loss of earnings in the course of the dispute.
