For a general strike against austerity. Turn words into action
14 Jan, 2013
Thanks to everyone who made the initial Unite the Resistance in Scotland planning meeting in Glasgow last Saturday morning a success.
55 trade union, disability and community activists from UNISON, UNITE, EIS, UCU, FBU, PCS, Black Triangle, BARAC, Defend Glasgow Services, Glasgow Campaign to Welcome Refugees, Save the Accord and other local learning disability carers and numerous other community campaigns were in attendance.
Everyone agreed to link up their own fights, to resist Austerity and to campaign within the trade unions for a General Strike. UNISON Scotland’s motion which called for “a co-ordinated industrial action strategy beginning with a one-day strike across Scotland, and to co-ordinate the strike with any action by trade unions at a UK level as appropriate” against the Con-Dem government and their vicious austerity attacks was supported.
Everyone agreed to mobilise for the 23rd January protest against day centre cuts outside Glasgow City Chambers.
