A group of trade unionists and campaigners attended today’s Unite the Resistance planning meeting to discuss the organisation of our conference which will be held on Saturday 17 November.
The conference will take place shortly after the 20 October TUC demo against austerity and will bring activists from different unions together to dicuss how we can carry the fight forward.
The planning meeting incuded activists from the Unison, Unite, NUT, PCS, UCU and BFAWU unions and campaigners from the Labour Representation Committee, Disabled People Against Cuts, Keep Our NHS Public, Defend Council Housing and Defend the Right to Protest.
The meeting agreed an agenda for the conference.
Opening session (11am – 1pm)

Workshops (2pm – 3,30pm)
1. Solidarity and the law
2. The international struggle against austerity
3. Equality for all
4. Defending the public sector
5. Our vision for education
6. Organising unemployed workers, migrant workers and young people
. Some organisations have already expressed an interest in hosting/sponsoring a workshop. If your organisation/branch would like to sponsor a workshop or suggest another one please contact us.
Elections and statement (3.30pm – 5pm)
Statement – the current UtR officers will be producing a statement of the aims and objectives of the organisation. This will be circulated in September. This will be voted on at the conference and can be amended.
. Election of officers to the UtR national committee.
Union/sector meetings (5pm – 6pm)
The conference rooms will be handed over to union groups to discuss their ongoing struggles against austerity.
The following was also agreed:
. We have now sold over 14,000 copies of the Action Programme we produced, three Unite the Resistance officers have been set the task of updating the pamphlet.
. We will produce a statement for unions and campaign groups to endorse the conference. The statement will go up on our website shortly.
. Representatives from DPAC have agreed to organise signers for the conference.
. A list of speakers was agreed and invites will be sent out in the coming week. If your organisation would like to put forward a speaker please drop us a note.
