5 March 2012
The pensions strike is back on. The date for the next strike is wednesday 28 March.
All the unions involved in the action will be holding consultation ballots, and they will be asking their members to vote to reject the offer and strike on the 28 March.
The London Unite the Resisdtance public meeting is one of a number being held around the country. It will take place the day after the results of the ballots are announced.
We are delighted that Mark Serwotka, the PCS general secretary, has agreed to speak. He will be outlining the next phase of the campaign and a strategy to defeat the government and defend public sector pensions.
Sean Vernell is an activist and a member of the UCU NEC. He will give a rank and file view of the fight.
Also on the platform will be Margarita Papamina, a primary school teacher from Greece, she will talk about how the Greek Government’s austerity plans have devastated jobs, wages and services – and how this has provolked inspirational resistance, general strikes and street protests.
Last and by no means least, Steve Kelly, from the electricians’ rank and file committee, will talk about how their strikes and protests beat the most powerful construction companies in Britain.
It’s going to be an inspirational meeting – we hope to see you there.
Details of the meeting are:

Conway Hall, Red Lion Square (Holborn tube station)
Speakers include Mark Serwotka (PCS Gen Sec), Margarita Papamina (Greek striker and techer), Sean Vernell (UCU NEC) and Steve Kelly (Unite and electrician’s campaign)
