Mohammed Shafiq the president of the Independent Union of Workers in Manshiet al-Bakry General Hospital in Cairo will be speaking at the Unite the Resistance convention on Saturday 19 November.
His was the first health workers union in Egypt to unite all grades of hospital staff and was founded in the wake of the uprising against Mubarak earlier this year.
Union activists led a campaign of strikes and protest which forced the corrupt old management to quit and organised a democratic election to find a new director. Now other Cairo hospitals are organising on the same model.
